A faulty vane position sensor is something that will inevitably happen. While robust, after a while these sensors, like any sensor will eventually fail. These vane position sensors operate as a potentiometer and ride on the VNT cam within the turbo and after enough cycles they will stop reporting a change in voltage. These run on a 5volt circuit and read between .5-5volts and eventually they get stuck at reading full voltage even though the VNT is actually moving. This will lead to P2563 code and put the truck into a low power mode. Before replacing, it is always good to ensure your vane position sensor has actually failed and it isn't a locked up VNT assembly.
