Turbocharger Rebuild Service
We take pride in the turbo remans we do and are always improving upon our process. We take it a notch above most when rebuilding which is what makes it our secret sauce. Anyone can repair a turbo, but the difference between a turbo lasting 1,000 mile and another 500,000 miles is all in the details. We truly blueprint each turbo that comes in for repair and use only the highest quality parts to do so.
We can rebuild any turbocharger provided parts are still available and we will scour the ends of the earth to find those hard to find parts. Wether it is turbos for a large Cummins QSX95 Hedgehog engine, or down to a 1.0L Ford Ecoboost, we can service it. Read about our process below:
Cost
We charge an hourly rate of $65.00 per/hr for our shop rate and then charge for material and supplies. On average rebuilds take 3.5-6hrs depending on complexity. It is hard to give average rates per turbo as genuinely each turbo rebuild is slightly different from one to the next, but expect your rebuild to be from $550-$1800, again depending on complexity and components required. We spend a large amount of money in tooling and material to improve the quality of product but we maximize your dollar spent.
Lead Time
We aim to turn around rebuilds in 3-5 business days and start tear down of your unit within 24hrs of recieving it. Please communicate your needs to us and level of rush required so that we can meet your expectations. We operate on a first come, first service basis and treat each job as a priority, however we if it is a rush, we can take extra steps to try to meet your deadline.
Turbo Rebuild Process
- Unit recieved and photographed of all components and condition
- Disassembly of the unit completely
- Components are ultrasonic cleaned in degreasing solution
- Items are then blasted and stripped of and contaminates
- Components are then ultrasonic cleaned again in an anti rusting agent
- All components are then inspected for cracks or wear and measured for size, surface finish, straightness (This is our secret sauce, we measure down to the .001 and to 5um for surface finish)
- If equipped, actuator (electric or pneumatic) are tested for functionality and any defects
At this point, we will email you a quote outlining the services and our finding which will include images of faulty components. If the unit is more cost effective to replace with an OE unit then we will offer that as an option in conjunction to the repair. If you choose to purchase a replacement unit, all inspection and testing fee's are waved. If you decline both a replacement unit and or repair services, we will charge you for the hours of labor spent, which is generally 1.5-3.0hrs avg depending on unit. If you proceed with repairs, we will then start the next steps.
- Shaft and wheel if required will be machined down to remove any major defects, then polished to achieve desired surface finish
- Bearing housing if required will be machined down to remove any major defects, then honed to achieve desired surface finish
- Compressor and Turbine Housing flanges are machined flat if required or to repair any defects
- Piston Rings are dry fit to check ring gap is to desired tolerance
- Turbine wheel and shaft, compressor, new thrust collar and new compressor wheel nut is assembled and two plane dynamically balanced
- The Cartridge / CHRA (Center Housing Rotating Assembly) is then assembled with new bearings, piston rings, thrust bearing and thrust collar, seals, hardware and any other component required
- The Cartridge / CHRA (Center Housing Rotating Assembly) is then Low Speed Core balanced or High Speed VSR balanced depending on frame size and operating speed
- The Short Turbo (CHRA, Compressor Housing, Turbine Housing) is then assembled and orientated back to the factory position
- If equipped, we will then install and calibrate the actuator pneumatic and or electronic.
The units are then given a final QC check to ensure everything is functional and up to our standards, then tamper painted and bagged in a high mil thick bag and box if shipping.
